Description: This session will describe patient selection for solo home hemodialysis, outlining the skills and attitudes needed for effective and safe therapy, and highlighting self-cannulation as a necessary aspect of solo care. This comprehensive session will cover how to choose suitable patients for solo HHD, emphasizing factors like patient motivation and technical proficiency, the essential skills and attitudes required for safe solo therapy, such as self-monitoring and troubleshooting, and the critical role of self-cannulation in enabling patients to independently manage their dialysis treatments at home without a care partner. 

Presenter: Maria Camila Bermudez, MD 

Bio: Dr. Bermudez is the Director of the Home Dialysis Program at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. She's deeply involved in quality improvement initiatives aimed at promoting patient self-care and patient empowerment. Additionally, Dr. Bermudez serves as the Associate Program Director of the Nephrology Program, in charge of Home Dialysis fellowship curriculum.
